Husband and wife 300's same match
Thursday, February 10th in the Merry Mixers League we saw some unusual excitement as the husband and wife team of Jeff and Debbie Baerman both bowled a 300 game in the third game of their set. Jeff is the 4th person on the roster so he was the first to shoot his perfecto. Debbie is the anchor so she had to step up under the pressure and throw the last three to match him, and she did in front of their eerily quiet league.
Their teammate, and our Manager Trisha Gibson, was in hiding as she says she is everyone's jinx when it comes to 300 games. She has witnessed so many "almost 300" games that now she hides so she doesn't bring anyone the "jinx". She said she could hear the crowd erupt after Jeff got his and could hear all the cheering whenever Debbie would strike. After the third cheer she came out to congratulate them both.
Jeff and Debbie met in the early 90's at Cordova Lanes. Debbie said Jeff's team was egging hers on that they were going to beat them and the loser had to buy dinner at Sizzler. Debbie says Jeff's team won and thinks her team still owes them dinner! Debbie has been bowling in Sacramento since the early 80's, and Jeff started around 1990. They have bowled together every year since 1993, except when Cordova Lanes was torn down to build a Safeway, which she says she has boycotted ever since!
When they moved to Oregon in 2005 one of the first things they did was find the bowling alley. And when they came back in 2009 the first thing they did was look up Trisha and start bowling again at Fireside. Debbie thinks it has been the best thing for their relationship. They always try their best and enjoy sharing each others accomplishments, especially this one. This was Debbie's second 300 game and Jeff's eighth.
And now they can go into the recordbooks together for a job well done! They are one of only five in the husband and wife category to have accomplished this feat! Congratulations to both of you!
